The Stitch Book: Week 13 (March 24-30)

 

One week, I'll come onto this blog on Beyonce's internet and not say that it's been a weird week. This week is not that week, so here we are. We're not going to dwell on this weird week because I'm so excited about what I made this week. But before we get to that, here's my friendly reminder to drink some water, find some sun, and snuggle with your pet (if you have one). 

Over the holidays, I kept seeing embroiderers and other crafty folks using twigs and small sticks to make Christmas trees. I saved it for spring and one of my favorite things about living in the DMV, cherry blossom season. I've written several posts about cherry blossoms over the years and I will always enjoy people enjoying the blossoms. They're just beautiful and cheerful and one of my favorite things. 

I used twigs (sticks?) from my front yard to create this week's piece. Originally, I was going to do a combination of stitches, but once I started with the French knots, I decided that was all I wanted to include. I love the way this turned out. The different textures of each twig make each line unique and the different shades of pink are some of my favorite thread colors. It's so happy and makes me happy. 

I'm planning on incorporating more items from nature into future pieces. I'm glad I started with the twigs. It's a nice way to welcome spring.

Random Things from the Week

How amazing is this portrait of Keely? My friend Star painted it (we did a little art swap this month) and I think she absolutely captured him, particularly in the eyes. We've decided this is what he would like if he were running for public office. Obviously, President Keely would be amazing.

I gave a tour to two whole people last Sunday. I posted this selfie before the tour and now the museum is going to feature it in an upcoming social media post. My glasses look amazing.
