Cherry Blossoms

Continuing my march into spring, I bring you the cherry blossom. I love cherry blossoms, and here in the DC area, they're a major part of the spring experience. I may have to take a drive to see the ones along the Tidal Basin next weekend (staying in my car, of course).

I'm not good at drawing flowers. I lucked into making my dogwood blossom last month because the shape is similar to a shamrock, which I also lucked into making one day while sketching. I decided to try something to see if it would help me draw petals. I drew an X and then used the lines of the X to create the four petals for each flower. It worked!

My sample one is a little more symmetrical than the ones that ended up in the final sketch, but whatever, it worked and it looks good in the final design. If you struggle to make flower petals, give this a try.
