The Stitch Book: Week 8 (February 18-24)

Everyone is unhinged. I was talking with a friend of mine this week and this was the phrase I repeated a few times. It doesn't matter if we're talking about work or our neighborhood, everyone is unhinged right now. I don't know if we're all moving toward some sort of collective existential crisis or what, but it all feels like a lot right now.

Because of this, I decided to focus this week on a simple message: Be Excellent to Each Other. Last week marked the 35th anniversary of the release of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. As I shared in 2021 when I did a different version of this quote, Keanu Reeves is in my top five movie star crushes from my teen years. I loved the original Bill & Ted and enjoyed the third movie, which came out in 2020. The sequel is not that good, but does feature my fifth favorite KISS song, so there's that. Anyway, we all need to focus on being excellent to each other right now. I don't know how else to say it, but listen to Bill and Ted.

Here's this week's piece:

February 24 - had to switch to DMC Etoile for today. The metallic thread wouldn't cooperate. Still sparkly so that's all that matters to me.

Weeks 1-8

Next week's color is silhouette. I haven't decided on the design but I have an idea.

Other Projects and More Sourdough Adventures

I finished six of the St. Patrick's Day ornaments for my mom's party next month. I have four left to make, although I'm not sure she needs all 10. I should be able to finish up the rest over the next week. Look at the cute little bags I found!

One of the techniques I'd like to try this year is printmaking (I guess?). I've seen lots of videos on Instagram of artists who mostly work on paper using things like dishes, food, and other household items to make prints. A few have printed on fabric and it would be a cool way to incorporate paint and interesting shapes and patterns.

I tried the technique this week using a serving tray I got at the dollar store.

I want to get some different paint before I try it for one of my stitch journal entries. This is one of the fabric paints I have, but I'd like to try a different kind before I do it for real.

I also made some sourdough discard chocolate chip scones. They came out beautifully. I'm currently in the middle of making the dough for my fourth loaf of sourdough bread. Loaf 3 was a little better but still not exactly what I was hoping for. I'm trying a slightly different technique from a stretch and fold and rise perspective, but the ingredients are basically the same. I need to get it to the bulk fermentation stage by the time I leave for a few appointments today. Once I come back, I can pop it in the fridge and bake tomorrow. I'm getting used to the process and the planning side of making this type of bread.
