It's raining. It's gloomy and sad outside. I guess we need the rain, but it makes it hard to want to do anything useful today. And by useful, I mean go to Michaels to buy sparkly wool. However, the rain did serve as an inspiration for the last day of April.
I added rain. I wasn't sure how I was going to finish out this month, but it seemed fitting to add some light blue French knots around the garden as rain. April showers and all that. Bernie, Sam, Lydia, and Bobby don't seem to mind the rain.
Here's this week's recap:

Up Next: Feeling Skinny
The next several months of the stitch journal are going to lean much more toward the abstract, beginning with May's entry, Feeling Skinny. I'll talk more about this piece of clothing and the idea behind this one in next week's recap post. Here's a little sneak peek at the item and the color palette.
April showers leading to May flowers only works in a sort of Alma Thomas kind of way in my stitch journal. Thomas is a favorite painter of mine and she painted abstract works inspired by nature. Her painting Iris, Tulips, Jonquils, and Crocuses is an inspiration for next month. I was also inspired by a few sections of last year's stitch journal, specifically this one:
New Series - Iconic
I finally started on my new series, Iconic. I've had this series on my list of things to do since mid-2021. I featured a fair number of quotes in my 365 project that year and it got me thinking about the quote books I used to keep when I was a kid. One of my friend's daughters also said something very funny that inspired me to create this series devoted to quotes I like right now. The twenty quotes featured in this series are a mix of quotes from people I know, famous people, overheard quotes, or things I've read on Twitter (seriously) that I enjoy. Originally, I was going to make them as small hoops, but I decided to do this as a series of embroidery on paper and will be binding them as a book. I'm using DMC Diamant thread on these pieces. I bought the thread for this series and it's working well so far. It's the right weight for embroidery on paper. It's also easier to work with than other metallic thread.
Here are the first two pieces in the series:

Iconic #1 |
|
WIP: Iconic #2 |
Iconic #2 will also feature needle felted clouds.
|
I would like to add shimmery wool if I can find some. |
I'll do a full post on Iconic sometime in May or June, depending on how far along I get. I have a feeling this will end up being a larger series completed in a few volumes. I'm also learning how to bind these as a book.
Random update: I finally bought my roller skates! If you've been following along since 2021, you may recall the piece I did featuring a pair of roller skates. I've been stalking a pair online for almost two years because the company ran out of my size quickly (I wear the most common women's shoe size). I got an email about a spring sale a few weeks ago and they finally had my size in one of the colors I wanted. I'm so excited to start skating!

Yes, that's my kitchen floor. My indoor/outdoor wheels haven't arrived yet and it's raining, so I've legit been skating in my living room and kitchen. Next weekend I may go to the skating rink in Manassas to actually try these babies out! |
