I woke up this morning and decided to use metallic thread for today's piece. I don't know why. As I shared back in August, metallic thread is the devil's thread. The idea of it is so promising - it sparkles! It looks fancy! It's shiny! But then you start trying to thread a needle, and immediately want to poke your eye out with a seam ripper. Sigh.
I used metallic thread for the first time back when I first started embroidering (so 2006). I decided to embroider table linens for my mom and one of my aunts. The ones I did for my aunt were all Christmas themed, and I was such a naive little embroiderer that I thought using metallic thread would be festive and lovely. It absolutely was, but it was also terrible. I threw all the metallic thread away after finishing the project and vowed never to use it again.
Of course, I'm weak so I still buy and use metallic thread. I can't help myself. It really does add something to a piece. It's a pain to work with, but the end result is really lovely. Combined with the crystals, today's piece sparkles like nothing else I've made during this entire project. The crystals are thanks to my mom; she went through a "I should make wine charms" phase a few years ago and gave the remaining crystals to me after she realized she had no interest in making wine charms.
Enjoy Christmas Lights #2. You can see Christmas Lights #1 here. I'm going to go try to make better life choices for the rest of the day.
