I had a different version of Christmas lights planned for today, but I woke up this morning thinking about a more abstract approach to the piece. I decided to embroider that version today and use the more realistic version later in the month.

I put my Christmas tree up yesterday. I was unplugging it before going to bed last night, and noticed the reflection of the lights on the wall behind the tree. This was the inspiration for the version I went with today.

I love satin stitch and Etoile thread. It's not a perfect depiction of the light reflection, but it captures the bounce of light when you look a Christmas lights. They make different shapes depending on what's around. And they're so sparkly. That's my favorite part.
