A Trip to the Winery

One of the great things about living in Virginia is the amount of stuff to do around the state and the amount of things like wine and apple cider donuts you can get in close proximity to one another. Driving just an hour or two away from the suburbs of Northern VA is a treat. I can always feel my shoulders relax on the drive down. Even during the pandemic, I've felt very comfortable visiting the winery where I'm a member (and my dad is too), Rappahannock Cellars. They've done such a great job making it safe and comfortable to come for the day. It's been a long few weeks, and I really needed to get out of my house and have a nice day. My friend Anita wanted to get out of town for the day too, and who doesn't love a little day drinking and apple cider donuts?

While we're not in peak fall leaf season yet, the drive down was beautiful. It moved between being overcast and sunny, so it was perfect. We stopped at The Apple House, one of the places on the VA Apple Cider Donut Trail I featured recently. The donuts were amazing, and I really need to go back and get BBQ and shop in the store (lots of local products, which I love). We had a great tasting and snacks at the winery and finished the visit with a cocktail at the distillery (yes, there's a distillery at the winery). It was a perfect day.

Today's piece is based on the drive to the winery. I could have made French knots for hours, but decided to give myself two hours to make today's piece. I rarely put a time limit on myself, but I wanted to see if I could bring the image in my head to life in a limited amount of time. I had something else planned for today, but I'm glad I decided to base this piece on today's trip.

Also, if you live in Virginia and you're wondering why fall just showed up earlier today, I willed it to happen. I wore my new denim jacket and all of the sudden, fall happened. You're welcome.
