Tattoo designs and fabric dye

I went down a bit of a rabbit hole last night looking at tattoo artist portfolios. I have three tattoos, and am planning to get at least two more (maybe three). I really want an embroidery tattoo, but I don't think there are any artists who specialize in this type of tattoo near me. I mean, I want to go to Mexico at some point, but not to get a tattoo (several of the more well known embroidery tattoo artists are in Mexico). Anyway, I was researching tattoo studios here in the DMV, and then I couldn't stop looking at all the amazing art out there. Bonus: I may have found a studio and artist for my next tattoo.

That got me thinking about what I want to get. I think I want to design something to commemorate this project, whether it be something I design specifically as a tattoo, a combination of some of my favorite designs I've created, or something me and the tattoo artist come up with together. Last year, I wouldn't have even considered drawing my own tattoo, but here we are. I may still defer to someone with better skills than mine, but at least I'll be able to conceptualize/sketch what I want, which is so freaking cool. One of my ideas is to use traditional Irish and Polish embroidery designs as the basis for the design with my own embroidery style layered on top. It doesn't have to be an embroidery tattoo, but it'll still be connected in spirit.

Anyway, for today's piece I decided to add to the aida cloth I used for my dye sticks experiment yesterday. I don't like to waste fabric.

The dye sticks appear more like tie dye on aida cloth. They also blend better, which I think will be helpful when I use them for one of my trees/tree scenes in October.

Hard to believe we're almost to October! October is my favorite month of the year, and it means only three months left of this 365 project. There's still time to suggest a theme/image/piece to me if you'd like. I won't get to it until November or December unless it fits into my mini-themes for October AND is a better idea that what I already have planned. The mini-themes are:

  • Fall Favorites
  • Trees/Leaves
  • Spiders/Spider Webs
  • Anything Can Happen on Halloween
