One of the things I've been enjoying about this project is learning new stitches or
variations on foundational stitches. Today, I thought I'd explore some variations on the
chain stitch. I don't use the chain stitch enough, and have discovered so many variations to try. I think a few of these may come in handy for some of my pieces in October and November. There are a least 90 variations on this stitch; I focused on four for today.
Mary Corbet's website,
Needle 'n Thread, is fast becoming my favorite site for tutorials. Her instructions are easy to follow and she gives great tips for working with more complex stitches. Thank you Mary!

Whipped Chain Stitch |

Wheatear or Wheat Stitch - This is going to be a great stitch for flowers and maybe some creepy stalks for some of my spooky themed posts next month. |
|
Open Chain Stitch - it took me a few attempts to get the rhythm of this stitch down, but I like the finished product. I'm not sure how I want to use it yet. |
