New Stitch: Ribbed Spider Web

Today's new stitch is called a ribbed spider web stitch. I promise there are no actual spiders involved in today's post. I can't promise there won't be spiders involved in future pieces, especially since we're getting closer to Halloween, but none today.

I love this stitch. It's similar to a woven wheel in that most of the stitches are wrapped, not stitched, and the wrapped stitches form a distinct pattern around the circle. This is my first attempt at a ribbed spider web stitch, and I think it turned out pretty well. I need to pack the stitches in a little tighter, but that's easy to fix. I opted to leave some of the foundation color exposed as well. That's one of the cool things about this stitch: you can cover the foundation completely or leave it exposed. I added French knots, which aren't required, but I love them and wanted to include them today. I plan on using this stitch for a few pieces over the next two months, using some of the variations to create fun shapes and scenes...and there will be some embroidered spiders. Prepare yourself.
