One of my goals with this project is to learn new stitches. Most embroidery can be done with a few of the basic stitches: back, split, and stem stitches. Honestly, if you only know how to do a back stitch you can make some pretty amazing things. However, I want to stretch my skills so learning some new stitches or reviewing stitches I don't use very often is part of the grand plan.
Today's new stitch is the woven wheel stitch (or wagon wheel). It's primarily used for making flowers. The stitch was included in a few kits I did last year, but I never felt like I really got the hang of it or that any of my flowers looked all that great. I was scrolling through Instagram this weekend and saw several beautiful floral pieces using a woven wheel, and decided today would be my day to try it out again.
I watched a few tutorials online and really like this one from Cutesy Crafts. I like her explanations and find all of her videos super easy to follow. I realized too late that one of my starter lines was longer than the others. A few leaves and French knots cover all sorts of things. It's such a pretty stitch; I can't wait to use it in more pieces.
