Some of you may recall that time back in March where I inadvertently created a peach Death Star. I enjoy abstract embroidery, and try to do at least one per week if possible. The peach Death Star was a happy accident, and one of my favorite pieces. My brother even thought it was funny.

Stitches: back and straight stitches
Thread palette: DMC 3840, 3838, 162 (3 strands)
I decided to try the same approach today, but segment out the square with straight lines rather than on the diagonal as I did with the peach Death Star. Each shade of blue is repeated three times in three larger segments, and then as filler to the other two segments. I used some back stitches, but it's mostly straight stitches of varying lengths. The border is a combination of one strand of each color; I used to do this all the time before varigated thread was popular and because it's fun to thread a few colors together.
