The happy, little bee is one of my favorite things I've created while working on this project. Because of the bee, I learned about bee senates and that bees are better at democracy than people. I also decided to make more bee pieces, and creating this bee lead directly to my creating a cicada, a ladybug, and a butterfly. The only flying insect I haven't done that I want to is the dragonfly. I'll save it for July or August.
Today's piece is part one of another panel piece. Our happy, little bee is flying over some flowers, on her way to see some sunflowers (tomorrow's piece). I didn't originally plan to do more than one panel this month, so the dividing line between the two days is visible. I tried to line up the wing, but a curved line doesn't cover a straight line very well. I may add some blue to indicate sky, or just leave it alone.
The bee's name is Bernadette or Bernie; those were the two names suggested after last month's bee piece. Bernie is sometimes a nickname for Bernadette, so feel free to call the bee either name.
I'm mildly obsessed with the purple flowers (French knots, of course) and the woven wheel roses. So much fun to make.
Enjoy part one of Bernie's adventure!
