I didn't plan to do another stitch study so soon after the last one, but I read my entire book yesterday while working at the primary election, so I had to do the only other thing I could: watch embroidery videos. We're allowed to use our phones, but only if we're not viewing anything related to the election and not while voters are present. I should have brought two books, but who would have predicted such a slow voting day? (Answer: literally everyone. It's a primary. Primaries are notoriously low turnout events.). Anyway, I watched a bunch of embroidery videos and tutorials about the lazy daisy stitch.
The lazy daisy stitch is a from the linked stitch family, which also includes the chain stitch and all its variations. It's a really easy stitch to do, so like so many things related to embroidery, I don't know why I didn't try it sooner. Most of the videos follow the basic steps, but a few did the tacking stitch first, then looped the thread. This is similar to one of the techniques for doing a couching stitch, where you stitch the anchor stitch and then weave the base stitch. I did this technique for the pink petals on the larger flower. If I do this version again, I need to make the anchor stitches smaller. I added the purple petals to that flower using the more traditional method.
For the other two flowers, I used the traditional method, but drew the petal shapes for the pink and purple flower. I'm terrible at drawing petals in any short of even way, which is why I had to add more. My transfer lines were visible (they still sort of are), so I stitched more petals to cover the lines. The purple flower is all free form, no guiding lines. It's my favorite of the three. It looks the best and most like a daisy. Unless I'm adding a flower using the lazy daisy stitch in a larger pattern, I'll use the free form method.
