May the Fourth Be With You (Tribute to French Knots, Part 2)

Back in March, I inadvertently created a peach Death Star, or at least something that resembled a peach Death Star. It's one of my favorite pieces of the project. Since I already did a Death Star, I had to come up with something else to celebrate Star Wars Day. I made a few attempts to sketch a few characters, but none of them looked particularly good (maybe next year). I also considered buying a Star Wars embroidery pattern from Etsy (there are lots of really awesome ones), but I'm trying really hard for the patterns in this project to be original. While the Rebel Alliance insignia is not an original design, I did draw this version.

Since I'm also focusing on French knots this week, I decided to use aida fabric (I happened to have a small piece of red aida fabric - score!). I don't use aida fabric all that often, but wasn't sure how I was going to feel with the end product. This gave me an out if I didn't like the finished product. I planned to go with a quote if that happened.

But it didn't. I like the French knot starbird (the insignia is based loosely on a phoenix). There are a few wonky knots, but overall, it's a fun piece.

I hope you're enjoying your May the Fourth. I hope next year I get to celebrate by attending Star Wars Day at Nats Park. Baseball and Star Wars are a winning combination.
