Postcards

I was listening to a livestream concert last night featuring a musician I love. Sad part: it was not great. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't great and it was weird, but not good weird. To keep myself occupied and focused on what I was hearing (which was pretty great) versus the pre-recorded stuff (so bad), I starting sketching some ideas for future pieces (my mom's birthday, St. Patrick's Day/my friend's birthday, Easter). I also started doodling random things in my house, and came up with today's piece...an ode to postcard writing.

Back in April 2020, I started sending postcards to people. I had a ton of them from all the travel I used to do, and ended up making handmade cards (embroidery, stamps). My friends really liked getting mail, and I liked writing little notes about the cat or random observations from my work from home existence. I haven't sent many postcards recently; I need to get back to sending them again.

Today is probably one of the smallest scale pieces I've done so far. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done. I have work to do on scale and perspective, but I'm getting better. My drawing skills are improving - I'm surprised at how much I enjoy this aspect of the project. From "making" my dad help me draw stuff for school projects to drawing my toaster, I'm proud of what I've done in the past sixty-ish days.
