The Cup of Fortunes definitely knows things. I've been saying this the entire time I've been working on this stitch journal, but this week's fortunes really sell the idea that cup is guided by a greater force than me picking fortunes. It knows things. For a short week, it was a packed week, and I tried my best to let the fortunes be my guide. The Cup knows I'm not the most flexible person, but is encouraging me to be prepared to modify "my plan" (whatever that is) and boost me up with praise. The Cup knows things.
Here are this week's fortunes and lucky numbers.

The back of the piece. One of my favorite creatives on Instagram, the Badass Quilter (Maddie), was talking about the backs of projects this week and it was a great reminder to show off the back of this one. It's messy and weird and that's the way it should be.
WIPs and Other Small Joys
I didn't make a ton of progress on Meow Manor this week, but I did redo the handle for the third time. I still don't like the back of it, so I've decided to use some of the lining fabric to cover the back of the handle. I think this will satisfy my brain and finally let me put this handle to rest. My goal is to finish Meow Manor this weekend. I have some errands to run and a few chores to do this weekend, but most of the weekend will be focused on Meow Manor. I need to get it done.
Bea went on an adventure this week - I took her to my parents' house for Thanksgiving. I was way more nervous about her going there than I've ever been with my previous cats. She's a jumper and still settling into being at my house, so I wasn't really sure what she'd do at theirs. Lots more places to hide than we have at home, and the added bonus of a railing that looks down from the upstairs onto the living room. Bea spent equal amounts of time hiding under the bed and contemplating whether she could jump from the railing to the first floor. She never did it, but she really, really wants to. She had zero interest in the turkey. She did enjoy randomly popping up in odd places like a dresser drawer in my parents' bedroom or on the sideboard in the dining room (like a decoration). Bea was exhausted when we got home yesterday but she did it! She's probably going to climb the Christmas tree when we visit next month, but that's a thing we'll address when it happens.

She was on the couch the Garland pets all sit on but aren't supposed to for a few minutes. This counts.
|
Look at this chaos agent! My brother thinks covering the rails is going to stop her. My response was, "have you ever met a cat?"
I also spent time over the holiday making turkey cookies for my parents to take to a family shelter on Friday. They belong to the Hibernians organization at their church, and they always support this shelter around the holidays. My mom wanted to make something for the kids, and found this cute recipe/craft to take. It was fun to do and I hope it brought some joy to the kids.

I refer to them as the Council of Turkeys.
I finished Olivia Dade's novel ZomRomCom this week as well. I didn't dislike it, and I'll read the sequel, but I was a little underwhelmed by the book. There seems to be something missing with the world she's built. I don't understand why everyone is a social media influencer and it's hard to understand why people remain in a containment zone when you have no context of what the area outside the zone is like. The people who live in the zone are able to leave so it's weird that we don't get to experience that. I'm also pretty certain the containment zone is where I live in Virginia, so my biggest challenge with the book is that there is zero chance that the federal government, even a fictitious version of it, would allow an experiment like the one in the book to occur so close to them. Politicians are a lot of things but one of them is self-serving. They'd never put themselves at risk like that. The experiment would have taken place in the middle of nowhere America, not near the nation's capital. I can suspend disbelief for so many things, including vampires, trolls, and fae Girl Scouts, but I don't believe this. Maybe the sequel will address these issues.
I'm going to start my December decorating this weekend as well. I want to go through my holiday stuff and donate things as soon as I can so they end up in the rotation before the season ends. I also found a really cute vintage ceramic tree from one of my favorite vintage stores on Etsy,
Vintage Vibes Revived. Check it out if you like vintage items, particularly glass and ceramics.
And I couldn't resist this guy at Home Good, even though I'm trying not to buy new things. He was too cute for me to leave behind.
I also got another delightful piece from the
Savage Stitcher this week. I love Angie's work, and highly recommend her shop if you like embroidery, smutty books, rage, feminism, and Costco hot dogs.
I'm off to support some small businesses in Old Town. I hope you enjoy the rest of your weekend as much as Bea enjoys being allowed in my closet. I decided to open the closet door finally. She's very happy about it.
