The Cup of Fortunes: Week 45 (November 2-8)

What a week! I volunteered, helped run an election, saw Virginia elect its first female governor, gave Bea her last dose of daily medication, got accepted to a new volunteer gig, The Mummy 4 news was announced, and I purchased a new furnace. I need a vacation from my time off.

This week's fortunes were also pretty fun. I planned my embroidery around my activities so each daily stitching time felt like a nice little break from running around.

I'm not sure what problem is getting better next month or that I'm all that charming, but I'll take these. Perhaps I'll win the lottery playing my last set of lucky numbers and that whole buying a new furnace thing will be less stressful than it is today. Maybe what I get because of my charm is a really good deal on a set of Merry Mushroom canisters from the 70s. Or maybe I'll have finally charmed Bea enough for her to sit on the couch with me on a more frequent basis than she does today. Who knows? The Cup of Fortunes obviously, but its knowledge is confusing and random.

Here are this week's fortunes and lucky numbers.

WIP: The House Purse (Meow Manor)

I didn't make a ton of progress on the last stages of the house purse this week. If I wasn't running around, I was falling asleep on my couch, so I only managed to do a little bit of the bottom panel last Sunday. I'm hoping to finish the bottom panel and the handle redo this weekend. I'd also like to cut out the lining this weekend. I have Tuesday off and don't have any plans until later in the day with my favorite veteran (my dad), so I should be able to get the lining sewn this week.

I was planning to use different shades of green for the grass on the bottom panel, but I didn't like the way the other two colors looked so I decided to stick with the green I've been using for the grass on the other panels.

Other Small Joys

I transitioned my Halloween decorations to fall last weekend. I'm not pleased with what I have on the dining table right now, but I do love the new tablecloth. Bea was very disappointed when I took the Halloween one off and didn't immediately have a replacement. She really loves hiding under the table.

I have a glass turkey from L.E. Smith glass turkey but it doesn't look as good as the centerpiece. I think it's because it's clear glass. He's currently on my desk instead.

There are lights in the turkey which makes it more festive.

I may move a vase of fake flowers to the table and see if that makes it feel more whatever it is I'm trying to accomplish. I don't really know what that is, but I'll know when I've gotten there. My holiday decorating is best described as a vibes based practice.

Bea was annoyed with me for being gone all day on Tuesday. When I got home from the election, before 9 pm which is wild, she ran around the house like a possessed animal. It was like zoomies but if she was also taking amphetamines. She tried to climb the wall, considered jumping on the mantle, and almost ran into a door. She finally settled down and gave me this look:

She's also decided that falling asleep with her head on my hand is her new favorite thing. She's done it the last three nights and now I have to sleep in a very particular way so this can happen. The things we do for our pets. She's almost done with her meds and I'm hoping today's checkup at the vet goes well.

I'm excited to start training for a new volunteer position. I've been thinking about switching up where I volunteer my time and applied for a presenter position with a group called The Order of the Good Death. The group was founded in 2011 by mortician and author Caitlin Doughty. I've read several of her books and was inspired to join the Order as a member earlier this year. The group focuses on death positivity and providing resources for people to understand and better plan for death with less anxiety and fear. The group provides online resources but also hosts events around the country. Once I complete training, I'll be a presenter at events in my region. I'm excited to get started on this new adventure.

Once I return from taking a squirmy cat to the vet, I plan on listening to the two CDs I purchased last Saturday. Taylor Swift and the Violent Femmes are a fantastic combination - it's about balance.
