The Cup of Fortunes: Week 41 (October 5-11)

Another work event done! It went well, but it's been a long week and I'm happy to spend my weekend doing very little. I have a few errands to run and some cooking to do, but nothing too taxing. I always get thrown off when I have to go to the office more than one day per week. I find it more difficult to do my normal things like working out and preparing normal meals. Sometimes life is ordering a box of Hubig's Pies from New Orleans because it brings me joy. Sometimes life is salads and going to the gym. It's called balance.

One of the opportunities I'm fortunate to have presented to me is the ability to purchase things like Hubig's pies on the Internet. Let's rejoice in the fact that this terrible online space also allows us a small taste of the places we love.

Here's this week's fortune and lucky numbers.

WIP: The House Purse

I've been making excellent progress on the house purse. I finished the design of the back panel on Thursday and will work on adding the details today. Then it's on to the roof panels and the handle. It's coming together so beautifully.

One thing I do need to figure out: What should I call this piece? I'm submitting it as one of my entries for the Woodlawn Needlework Show this year, and I have to give it a name. Any suggestions?

Look at that tiny orange cat! It's Pumpkin!!

I'm going to add a third cat to one of the side panel windows. It'll be a black cat in honor of my first cat, Molly, She was a black tortie, so black will be the closest I can get to her coloring.

Vampire Book Club

I also started my second vampire themed book this week, Bless Your Heart by Lindy Ryan. The book is about the Evans family, a group of women who run a funeral home in a small Texas town and keep the town safe from ghouls who occasionally rise up and kill people. A reviewer described this book as a combination of Steel Magnolias and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I couldn't agree more. It's fun, weird, and creepy. One of the things I love about this novel is that I can hear these women. I can hear their voices and things like them sighing. I don't know if you've ever had that experience when reading a book where you clearly hear the voices of the characters. It's so much fun.

There is a second book, Another Fine Mess, which I'm going to have to pick up once I finish this one.

Other Small Joys

If you've been around this blog long enough, you know I love tiny art and supporting artists. I have a house full of delightful art from all different types of artists. I buy things I can afford. Art doesn't have to be expensive to be good. Does it bring you joy? Does it look nice or fun in your house? Cool.

Over the summer, I came across an Instagram account called Unrefined Grace. The creator behind the account, Alisha, posted this couch shelf photo with little ghosts sitting on it. It was absolutely adorable. At the time, she wasn't selling them, but in August (I think) she did a presale for a set of them and I bought one. It was the first time she offered them so I knew it would take a few months to get here. I hadn't gotten a shipping update, so I was surprised when it showed up this week. Y'all, it is so freaking cute. She included a ghost. I don't know where I want to hang it since it's meant to be on a wall, so it's sitting on my bookshelf right now.

I decided one of my Wild Rainbow cat Nuggets could keep the ghost company while I figure out where to hang this. I'm going to Michael's later today to see if I can find something else to perch on the couch. She's doing another presale right now if you're interested in getting a tiny couch shelf for yourself. It's a larger version than the one I have but still super cute.

I also got a new tiny house from Snow Pond Ceramics. I have a small village from this designer, Katie, that I bought a year or so ago. She's been sharing photos of mushroom houses on her Instagram recently and I was finally able to get one. I love it. It's fits in nicely with my weird cats and Nuggets.

Bea has had a fun week of being a very good girl when getting ear drops and ointment applied. Her ear infection seems to have run its course, and the missing fur patch on her back is getting better. I was looking online for information about the missing fur since neither vet could figure out what's causing it, and I think it was either the flea meds or the dewormer that she was given at the rescue. I found some posts and photos online of cats with the same type of issue and both things caused it. It seems kind of delayed but it could have been something she was dealing with at the rescue but it wasn't as bad or visible so no one knew. Hopefully, her fur grows back and this doesn't happen again. She's been her playful self all week, so neither thing kept her down.

This is step 235 of what I believe is a 400 step process to get her to lay on the cozy bed. Sitting on a corner is progress.
