The Cup of Fortunes: Week 30 (July 20-26)

Not every fortune from the Cup of Fortunes makes me think the Cup knows things, but there are some that do. This week's fortune is one of those fortunes.

Exactly what choices is this fortune referring to? It can't possibly be my current need to add every possibly haunted vintage ceramic cat to my collection. Or maybe it's that I started re-reading The Stand this week after attempting to watch the new version of the series and being incredibly disappointed, so I needed to go back to the original material. Miguel Ferrer did not wear unnecessarily shiny shirts and smolder on broadcast tv in 1994 so they could turn Lloyd into an influencer-style character. No, Miguel did not. And look, I love James Marsden as much as the next person. Yes, I hoped he'd sing "Nicest Kids in Town" while journeying west, but he didn't and he's almost too handsome for The Stand. James Marsden cannot save this series.

Perhaps the Cup of Fortunes is talking about my return to exercise in the mornings and buying new pillows. Or lighting candles in the evening while I read or watch true crime shows. Maybe it's because I finally bought new bras. I don't know. The Cup has faith in my choices, so I guess that's what's important to keep in mind.

Here's this week's fortune and lucky numbers. It was a one fortune week.

July 20

July 21

July 22

July 23

July 24

July 25

July 26 - I appreciate that the last number is the same in these two sets of lucky numbers. That was a coincidence. Also, that's the same thread color, but it looks different since I'm using a darker color pen right now. Fun.

Weeks 1-30

WIPs, The Stand, and Other Small Joys

I didn't do a lot of stitching this week. I did finish the flora portion of the raccoon design I'm working on, but only made a little progress on the raccoon part. I have some time tomorrow that I plan to work on it. I'd like to have this one finished before my vacation starts in a week.

I framed a linocut print I got from Hally & Christy Prints (Etsy as well). The crow prints make me smile and I finally bought one. It's so lovely. I had a frame from Goodwill that I've been wanting to use for something and this print fit. I cut a plastic insert from a frame that broke so the print would be protected. I think it looks great.

It's going to hang above my desk. The space has a spot for two more pieces, so I'm waiting to hang this one until the other piece I found arrives. I think they'll both fit, but I want to make sure.

Last week I went to a new vintage store and found some fun pieces. I didn't realize this shop was next door to the ReStore thrift store, so it was a nice surprise. Evolution Home used to be in a big, green box like space about 5 minutes from my house, but moved during the height of the pandemic. I thought it was closed, so I was excited to see it last weekend. It's a vintage/antique/consignment shop, so prices are higher, but the quality matches that. There were so many beautiful vintage and antique pieces. I could have spent the whole day there. I found a few fun items (on sale too), and completely in line with my need to re-home every possibly haunted vintage ceramic cat.

The vibe is Ghostbusters rooftop scene except the cats are judging you, not opening portals to hell.

I also found this stunning Enesco peacock trinket dish. You might know the Enesco brand because they're behind the Precious Moments figurines and a lot of the Disney ceramics are part of their product line. They also made things like the peacock in the 1970s. I couldn't resist the colors - I'm still trying to figure out how I want to redecorate my bedroom, and the peacock might be my new inspiration. I'm also really glad this store is on the other side of town. I would be there all the time if it was still near my house.

Added some new books to the collection this week. Did you know Lili Taylor wrote a book about birds? Well, you do now. I'm also finally reading one of Caitlin Doughty's books.

Last Sunday was an absolutely beautiful day for baseball, but it was way to hot to stay for the whole game. That was probably for the best...the Nats are not good. Just really disappointing. I do think I should publish a book of my baseball stadium cloud photos. Look at those clouds!
