I really enjoyed both fortunes this week. They're so positive and inspirational. I've had many mentors in my life and appreciate the advice and support they've given me over the years. I hope I've been a good mentor to my own mentees too. What's the wildest or funniest advice a mentor has ever given you?
The second fortune was also very timely as it's Women's Health Month and Mental Health Awareness Month. Get those wellness and preventive screenings scheduled and spend some time this month taking care of you. I'm off to get a mammogram - if you haven't scheduled yours for this year, get it done!
Here are this week's fortunes and lucky numbers.

Weeks 1-19 |
WIPs, the Travel Case, and Other Small Joys
I've made zero progress on any of my other embroidery WIPs. Scream 6 will get done this weekend and then it's on to a few other smaller projects. I haven't picked out a quote for the flower dye piece yet. I have a few options, so there's that.
I have, however, made progress on the vintage travel case makeover. I spent two hours last Saturday cleaning the inside of the case. Based on my research, which is still ongoing, I think this case is from the 1940s rather than the early 1960s like I originally thought. I found a similar case online with a different trim, but everything else was exactly the same. The seller for that one had it dated in the late 1940s. What this means is that I spent two hours scraping 77 year old glue and cardboard off the sides of my case last weekend. It was something.

Fun fact: If you don't have a paint scraper that you thought you did, use a cheese knife. |

It looks so much better! I also used some wood cleaner to help freshen up the inside a bit more. It has a smell. |
I also started working on the felt needle minders. I'm making two. The dinosaur one will have a magnet in it. They'll both be attached to the pin cushion lid with Velcro. I can make a whole series of needle minders and swap them out as my moods change. Or something.

She's a little messy, but who isn't these days? |
Later today I'm going to start cutting out the new cardboard sides and the fabric. I may even start gluing the panels into the case. There is some wear on the outside of the case that I can't really do much about, so I have to decide if I'm going to leave it alone or do something to the outside. I could add stickers (I have so many) or I could paint designs on it. Thoughts?
Lots of small joys this week. My lettuce is just living its best lettuce life. I thought one of the other pods was done, but it legitimately pushed the label off of the pod and was like, "here I am."
Walgreens sells mugs? I had no idea but look at this adorable mug I bought earlier this week.
My early birthday present arrived yesterday. I ordered a spider necklace from Saffron Creations. Check out their stuff - everything is made from vintage tins. The spiders were a new addition to the insect collection. It's fantastic.
Some fun thrift finds from the week:

That's Keely right? Apparently, there's a second one that I didn't find. |

Hall Ceramics - love this color! |

I think this is from Pulick Pottery, but he doesn't seem to be making these anymore. |
My summer goal is to redo my kitchen from stuff I find in thrift stores. It's going to be amazing. I'm also on the hunt for a vintage porch goose. Wish me luck in finding one!
Last night I went to Twilight at the Pope-Leighey House. The Pope-Leighey House is a Frank Lloyd Wright house that's not too far from my neighborhood. They occasionally host twilight events so you can watch the changing light across the house. It's nestled in the woods, as it was intended to be, and so it's cool to sit and listen to the trees and the birds settle in as the night rolls in.
There's a small exhibition at Woodlawn (the houses are on the same property) about the efforts to save the Pope-Leighey House in the 1960s. Part of the exhibit features items from the house, and I promise I didn't steal this little weird cat statue, but I really wanted to.

Is he for real?!? |
Anyway, if you're in the area and want to go see something cool, go check out the Pope-Leighey House. I visited a few summers ago during the day, and the way the sunlight comes in the house is absolutely beautiful.
