The Stitch Book: Week 39 (September 22-28)

I love Stephen King. I read my first King novel when I was 10 or 11; it was Carrie and I never stopped reading his novels or watching the films and series based on them. I even did a piece featuring a quote (which is being repeated next week) in my 2021 stitch journal.

I've always wanted to go to Maine and do a Stephen King's Maine themed trip. Bangor, the third largest city in Maine, was King's home for when he wrote many of his most famous works (he visits in the summer now according to our tour guide). Derry, the town featured in IT and other books, is basically Bangor with a few street names changed. My friend Emily is also a King fan, and we decided to take a trip to Maine. I've been to Portland, ME before, but only for 36 hours. Emily has never been here. We both love spooky season, and what's better than visiting Stephen King's Maine for the start of spooky season?

I decided to feature some Stephen King quotes this week and next while I'm here in honor of King. This week's is from his book On Writing, which I purchased here in Maine.

Here's this week's piece:

Week 39

Week 40's color is okra.

If you find yourself in Bangor, I highly recommend SK Tours. Jamie and Jennifer were raised in Bangor and have an affection for Stephen King and his novels that is absolutely wonderful. I don't want to spoil the tour and the stories, but their family's story is linked to Stephen King and it was a joy to hear about the author, the town, their family, and the stories from someone who clearly loves what he does and where he lives. Even if you're not a huge King fan, the tour is worth it. Jamie was one of the best guides I've ever experienced on a tour.

I took a lot of photos and some Polaroids while on the tour. Here are some of my favorites from today. Some of the Polaroids are going to be embroidered.

Carrie was the first King novel I read. This is the tombstone that inspired King to use Carrie as her name. This woman's death date is my birthday.

The Thomas Hill Standpipe from IT - this is my favorite photo I took today. The sky and the angle is perfect. I think I want to get this printed and framed.
