The Stitch Book: Week 27 (June 30-July 6)

Bernie the Bee is back! I created Bernie during the 2021 stitch journal project, and he appeared in several pieces that year as well as a piece in the 2023 project. I knew I wanted to include Bernie somewhere in this year's project and here we are.

When my friend Kelly was visiting back in May, we planned to do a crochet day where we each worked on a Woobles pattern (Hello Kitty for me, Snoopy for Kelly). I wasn't confident in my abilities since I haven't been practicing crochet as much as I should be, so I made a bunch of chains while Kelly worked on Snoopy. I've wanted to use some of my crochet practice pieces in an embroidery piece, but haven't had a reason to. This week's piece was finally that time. I used the crochet chains to create oversize flowers for Bernie to visit.

I wasn't really sure what I was doing when it came to creating the flowers. I'm pleased with how they turned out.

Here's this week's piece:

June 30 - Bernie the Bee is back!

July 1 - this flower was created using the technique I'd use if I was doing a couching stitch.

July 2

July 3 - this was supposed to be tulip like.

July 4

July 5 - combo of both crochet elements

July 6 - added grass. I was going to add baby bees, but decided against it. This is all about Bernie.

Week 27

Weeks 1-27

Week 28's color is linen.

WIPs: Cicadas and Mushrooms

I'm slowly making my way through completing the cicada pattern from Badass Cross Stitch. This pattern was part of one of Shannon's newsletters or maybe it was the pattern I got for pre-ordering Shannon's book. I can't remember, but it's great and you should join Shannon's newsletter list and check out the other patterns available for purchase.

I also started working on a piece for a friend of mine. I'm trying something out with this piece - I'm not traditionally framing the piece with an embroidery hoop. I bought some of these wood display pieces in a different shape for another project, and decided the square ones would be good for this piece. I stained them on Thursday and they look so good! The vibe is 1970s kitchen decor. This mug is my inpiration.

More to come on this piece. I'm working on the designs today.
