I love cicadas. I'm probably one of like seven people who truly enjoy the cicadas when they emerge. I featured a cicada in my Screams series (part of the 2021 stitch journal) and did a lovely cicada pattern from Rabbit Hat Designs. Like spiders, I just really enjoy cicadas.
This year is a unique year since both broods of cicadas are emerging at the same time for an event called the dual emergence. Like the "path of totality," I enjoy saying "dual emergence" way more than I should. Unfortunately, I don't live in a state where the dual emergence is happening, so I have to be satisfied with a single brood. The last dual emergence was in 1803 and the broods won't align again until 2245, so you can see what a cool freaking event this actually is.
