The Stitch Book: Week 15 (April 7-13)

Happy belated Rex Manning Day and happy eclipse day to those who celebrate! That these two important events both took place on April 8 is one of the more 2024 things to happen in 2024. I didn't get to see the eclipse as I was driving home from the office during the peak time here in Virginia. I enjoyed everyone's photos and all the memes, particularly involving cats. I did watch Empire Records as is my tradition and it was as wonderful as it was the first time I saw it way back in 1995.

This week's stitch journal piece is my nod to the eclipse and astronomy. Since this week's color is ebony, I thought a focus on the night sky might fit nicely. I focused on constellations that are visible this time of year, including my own star sign, Gemini. I don't know if I've ever seen Gemini before, but I certainly enjoyed embroidering it. I used DMC Diamant and DMC Etoile thread to keep it sparkly. All of the links in the captions are to Wikipedia articles on each constellation. I'm sure there are other resources out there, but this seemed like the easiest way to give you a little background to each constellation featured.

Here's this week's piece:

I used a modified version of an image from this website for the design. I moved things around a bit and made a few of the images smaller to fit on the fabric.

April 7 - Ursa Major, Coma Bernices, Leo Minor

April 8 - Leo Major, Cancer

April 9 - Corvus, Crater

April 10 - Hydra

April 11 - Lynx and Gemini

April 12 - Auriga (partial)

April 13 - Monoceros (unicorn constellation) and part of Canis Major, specifically Sirius

Week 15

Weeks 1-15

Week 16 - the new color is called Fog. It's a grayish white - we're entering the white/beige phase of the fabric book.

Programming Reminder: I'm on my way to London today for a work event. I'll be taking next week's piece on the road. Posting times on Instagram are going to be different given the time zone and I may post next week's recap on Sunday, but we'll see how my travel day goes. Keely is going to stay with my family and while he's very angry at me, he's very excited for the chicken my dad has surely prepared for him.

Enjoy the finished axolotl! One of my projects when I get back is to completely rehang all the art in my house (move things around, regroup works, hang some new pieces). I'm excited to get all my creatures on a wall somewhere in my house.
