I made it through another busy week with another big work event. It went well, but I'm exhausted. I think I went to bed at like 8 pm every night this week. I'm glad we have Monday off and I plan to do what every American does to celebrate President's Day...I'm buying a new mattress.
Since I knew I'd be tired when I got home, I focused this week on a type of piece I find soothing to work on. I've done pieces like this over the last few years. Having no plan is freeing and the end result is always a lot of fun. Using varigated thread adds a nice dimension to the piece as well. As I was working on it earlier in the week, I kept thinking of the work of Kimsooja, an artist I talk about on my current collection tour at the museum. My tour is focused on textiles, fabric, and the use of sewing and quilting techniques in art. Her piece, The Earth, is a wonderful example of this. I love talking about this piece and I see something different every time I look at it.
Here's this week's piece:

I'm not sure what the design is going to be, but I'm only using metallic thread next week. I like chaos, I guess. |
