The Stitch Book: Week 5 (January 28-February 3)

Happy Belated Groundhog Day! Phil predicted an early spring and I'm here for it. I'm over being cold. Keely will be annoyed that the fireplace doesn't get turned on anymore, but I'm sure he'll get over it if I offer him chicken. Cats are very food motivated.

Anyway, this week's piece was fun to make. I've wanted to try watercolor paints on fabric and this week seemed like a good week to try it out. I've also been feeling a little off lately (lots going on at work, in the neighborhood) so I thought it was time to start a new Scream. I started the Screams series in 2020 and eventually created 12 original pieces. You can see the Screams here. Maybe it's because it's an election year. I don't really know.

I'm pleased with how this turned out. The paint works well, although you can't see the glitter as much as I'd like. The glue was a little bumpier than what I've worked with in the past, but it was fine. I may need to invest in a new glue gun. I don't have the best one and I think that impacts the smoothness of the glue.

Here's this week's piece:

The glue was too bumpy, but I went with it.

St. Patrick's Day Embroidery & Other fun stuff from the week

I've finished embroidering 3 of the St. Patrick's Day ornaments for my mom's party. Once I finished 6, I plan on finishing them all so I have some that are completely done and then finish up the rest of the ornaments. I may have a few left over if not all the ladies attend, so stay tuned for more details on that.

Keely was less than impressed with my completing a third ornament.

I'm meeting up with an old friend tomorrow to have lunch and pick up a sourdough starter from her. She offered me some and I decided to try this out. I have no idea what I'm doing, but she's been sharing lots of information with me so far. If she's okay with it, I'll link to her blog next week so you can follow her adventures in baking, preserving, and gardening. It's amazing.

Because I'm me, I immediately bought my starter things. This may be because I just finished reading the novel Sourdough or, Lois's Adventures in the Underground Market by Robin Sloan. It's a delight on so many levels. So far, I've bought my starter a set of baskets for proofing bread, a few tools, and a mushroom canister for the feeder flour.

Will the starter have a name? Obviously, the answer is yes. Do I know what that name is? No, I haven't met the starter yet. Don't be weird. You can't name something without meeting it. It's going to have to have a human name because that's much funnier than some bread pun. More to come on my adventures with keeping yet another thing alive. Elton John the Plant, Divine the Flamingo, Diego and Frida (the cacti), and Keely all seem to be doing well, so I'm hopeful I can keep a starter thriving and make some killer bread.
