Happy New Year! I think it's the last day I'm allowed to say that and not annoy people. I hope the first week of 2024 has been kind to you. I really should have taken an extra day off of work this week, but I didn't and here we are.
I'm excited to share more about this year's stitch journal project. Since I started doing 365 projects, I've changed up the format each year and thought differently about how I marked the time. This year, I've decided to work weekly. By the end of the year, there will be 52 pieces making up the 2024 stitch journal. I'll still post on Instagram daily and do a recap post here each week. I have a few other projects planned for the year and will post about them periodically.
This year's stitch journal is taking the format of a fabric book. I picked up an upholstery sample book last year at the upcycle craft store and decided to use it for this year's project. There are just over 52 pieces of sample fabric from a company called Norbar Fabrics.
The plan is to work through the pieces starting with the reds. It's a cotton fabric so it's great to stitch on and so far, transferring a pattern has worked well. I've only drawn circles and lines, so I'll have to see how finer lines and lettering work. I'm going to use metal binder rings to create the book. Each week will be a different theme, motif, or stitch focus. I'm planning on doing several stitch studies and learning new stitches throughout the year. I've been collecting quotes and fun words, so I plan on incorporating some of those as well. I'm also open to suggestions, so if you have any ideas, let me know.
I decided to kick off the project using the hot glue technique I started using last year. I love using this to stitch a padded satin stitch. I'm still working on getting the glue even, although I like the bumpiness of variations in the glue. I also decided to use DMC Diamant metallic thread. It's the only metallic thread that doesn't make me want to punch someone in the throat. I'm pleased with the results and the first week of this project.
