November - Working 9 to 5 (Week 2)

I have hated the phrase "lean in" since the book of the same name became a new "feminist" movement and way of thinking. I tried to read the book, but like so many books written by figures in business (and white feminists), it's completely unrealistic and pretty tone deaf. It's all the things white feminists say that piss the rest of us off. It wasn't until 2018 when Michelle Obama said "that shit doesn't work all the time," that other people jumped on the "lean in" hate with me.

Anyway, if I look at "lean in" from a non-feminist lens, it still sucks. It's one of those phrases that is used in the dumbest ways. I've been told to "lean in" on projects or with my team in the same breath as being told to empower my team or delegate more. It's confusing and completely unrealistic, just like the version in the book. It's no wonder the vast majority of managers would leave management if given the choice. It's too much whiplash.

Here's this week's recap:

November 5 - This is one of those questions that is both horrible and you sort of get why people use it. I'm from the generation of professional women who were told to ask this question when explaining something to others, who absolutely know what you're saying makes sense. However, it's also pretty insulting if you use the question in other ways.

November 6 - Like when RuPaul says fierce, intentional means nothing to me anymore.

November 7 - So far, this one has taken me the least amount of time to stitch. This is probably the phrase for this month I hate the most.

November 8 - The funny thing about the phrase "low-hanging fruit" is that it refers to something that's perceived as an easy thing. The reality is that these types of tasks or programs are almost never truly easy.

November 9 - If you say this word seriously, you should have to use jazz hands when you do it.

November 10 - A small part of my soul dies every time I say this to someone. Please, use those five minutes I just "gave" you back to do something important like curse me or roll your eyes. That's the only appropriate response.

November 11 - Like "low-hanging fruit," seamless is another word that gets bandied about in business to mean something that should be continuous, but usually means something that is anything but.

Can you believe we're almost to the halfway point of the month of November? I know, it's insane.

I don't have any WIPs to share right now. I'm working on my final tour presentation for the museum, so I took a little break from other embroidery projects so I can focus on that. I also want to shift from patterns to something of my own design...I just don't know what I want to work on. I'm thinking I might start the Barbie quote series or work on the full set of Screams. My final presentation is due next Saturday, so I'll make a decision sometime this week so I can get started on it once I give my tour.

I'm also starting to work on some of the designs for December. I'm trying something new for December, so we'll see how that goes. I haven't figured out what next year's 365 project is going to be. I have a few ideas, but nothing is standing out as the winner yet.

Here's a picture of Keely for you to enjoy this weekend. He razzle dazzles even when sleeping. True talent.

I broke down and bought this mug at Target. I usually don't buy Christmas stuff this early, but I know how Target is with cute things.
