September: Week 3 - Dress codes

Happy Fall, y'all! September is literally two days long, but at least it's getting cooler in the morning. I started using my Halloween travel coffee mug this week and have begun assessing my cardigan and sweater collection to see where I need to add things. You know, normal things one does when fall comes around.

I've been thinking a lot about dress codes this week. It's partially because of conservatives losing their shit over the relaxing of dress code rules for the US Senate and partially because I had to do a presentation at work in person to high school students. I wanted to look nice for work, but also be comfortable, so I decided to wear a dress (with pockets!) and my denim jacket. It was fine. Literally no one cared and I looked nice enough for photos that were posted on social media. We don't really have a dress code at work, but I think about these things a lot since even without a policy, I've always felt people were policing what I wore to work and being judgy. That's ultimately what a dress code is about - policing people's bodies. People are "mad" about John Fetterman wearing hoodies on the Senate floor because his constituents don't care. They still respect him, probably respect him more because he's bucking tradition and being a normal guy going to his job, and he still gets stuff done. White dudes in power need things like suits to make them feel powerful. At the end of the day, it's just a symbol. John Fetterman feels powerful in a hoodie. I feel powerful in a dress with pockets. We all have our thing.

Here's this week's recap:

PSA: Get your flu shot and whatever other vaccines you need! It's that time of the year, so please make your appointments and get your vaccinations. I got my flu shot last weekend and my COVID booster is in two weeks. One of the best parts about getting vaccines this time of year is that you can treat yourself to cute fall/Halloween stuff at the pharmacy (I go to my pharmacy for vaccines). Here's what I got for being a good adult and getting a flu shot:

Yes - it's a Squishmallow Squirrel named Erin. Read her biography and tell me this isn't me in stuffed animal form?

I also tried the pumpkin spice frosty at Wendy's. It tastes like pumpkin spice ice cream rather than a candle like everyone on the internet is claiming. It's very orange.

I'll be in Arizona most of next week, so the journal will be on the road with me. I'm visiting a friend and celebrating my brother's 50th birthday (it was in March) by going to see the Grand Canyon and checking another baseball stadium off the list. Anyway, I got a jump on the design for October since I have to take it with me as well.

I can't wait to talk about Rob Zombie and Herman Munster in next month's first recap post. It's going to be awesome.
