I've been very focused on taking my time with this month's stitch journal. Unlike the last few months, the scar designs are relatively small, so I could power through each one and be done in a day or two. Instead, I decided to take my time, especially on the last two designs. I'm limiting myself to 10 minutes each day (give or take a few minutes). One of the inspirations for this year's projects is slow stitching and I will admit, I've not done the best job at doing it. Slow stitching is mindful stitching, using embroidery or other forms of needlework to focus on the joy of creating rather than the finished product. I have been focusing more on the process and joy of creating than the finished product for each month, although I do want to finish. However, I'm treating each month like an experiment, so if I don't finish, it's totally okay. Keely agrees.
Anyway, I'm using August and September to refocus myself on the slow stitching part of this year's project. I completely changed my mind about September's piece (more on this in the next post) and I know it will be one I can take my time with even if I don't finish.

August 16 - I filled in the shape rather than outline it with glue. It's different and I may do both for the last scar to see how that works. |

Other Projects and Fun Stuff from the Week (still don't know what I call this section)
I finished the satin stitch part of the WORM pattern from
Wolfratsen. I added a few beads; I'm not totally sold on the beads yet. Maybe I should fill in the open spaces in the curves with beads instead of what I've done so far? Maybe this piece doesn't need beads? I don't know.
I've been making slow progress on my two PopLush patterns. I may try to get the phoenix done this weekend and continue working on the fish pattern. I decided to use a Posca marker for the fish hoop. It looks good so far.
I also figured out the name of these flowers that were in the bouquet I got at the farmer's market last weekend. They're called strawflowers or paper daisies. The petals feel like paper when they bloom.

Reminds me of Audrey 2 from Little Shop of Horrors |
In other plant related news, Elton John the Plant is looking a bit crazy these days. Thriving, but more wild than he's been since I got him. I love it! Divine the Flamingo (a succulent) is also doing just fine.
The final post for August will be up at the end of the month since August has an extra half week (12 days left this month and 1.5 scars left to stitch). I may take next Saturday off or post about an upcoming project I'm considering. Daily posts will continue on my Instagram for the rest of the month.
