August: Week 2 - Bumpy

I'm obsessed with using hot glue as a way to create padded satin stitch. Not only am I using it for all four of this month's designs, I also used it for a piece I did for a friend this week (see below - the heart). It's such a great way to create dimension since the thickness varies based on how much glue is applied. For this week's design, the glue is thinner overall. I used a thicker application of glue in a few spots. This mimics what I remember of my own scar as it healed. There would be spots that were very obvious and other spots that were less visible even as the wound healed. I also remember parts of the inside of the scar having the same variation in texture and roughness.

I may only use one of the lighter pinks and move the other one to the next design.

Scars fade from red to pink to what's coming in the next two designs (peaches and very pale). I also used less thread; there are only two strands of each color being used rather than three. I like the finish of two strands and plan to keep it through the rest of this month's journal. I also didn't finish this one this week. I'm trying to not feel rushed this month, so I'm working at whatever pace I feel like. I try to stitch for 10-15 minutes each day, which is usually a small section of the outline or filling.

Here's this week's recap:

August 6

August 7

August 8

August 9

August 10

August 11 - two photos. Finished the outline and started the filling.

August 12

I'm trying to decide if I want to fill in this design. I was thinking of using back stitch to do so and layer the colors. I'll have to see how I feel tomorrow.

Other Projects and Fun Stuff from This Week

I never call this section the same thing. It probably doesn't matter.

I have a bunch of in progress projects going right now. I like to have variety so I can move from piece to piece as the mood strikes me. This week, I worked on WORM, a PopLush pattern, got a second PopLush pattern hooped up to start, and finished a version of Iconic #3 for a friend of mine.

This is the last official embroidery club pattern from PopLush. I have a bunch of patterns (pre-printed and downloads) to stitch since I bought a bunch of things before she closed. There will be more as the year goes on.

Because I'm a child and have no boundaries when it comes to buying frivolous things, I couldn't help but buy the Hello Kitty bobblehead from a recent L.A. Dodgers game. Yes, I bought this on eBay. No, I'm not a Dodgers fan.

Her bow lights up.

Remember, kids, find the things that bring you joy. This brings me joy.
