The Iconic Series, Volume One

Happy World Embroidery Day! I'm so excited to share the completed first volume of my series, Iconic. I finished the first half of the series back in May, and have been slowly working on the second half ever since. I finished up the final few pieces last week and finally put the whole thing together.

I kept quote journals when I was a teenager and I still save quotes on my phone or on scraps of paper randomly shoved in books and notebooks. Iconic #20 was the quote that put this project in motion for me and I was excited to finish this series with that quote. Coffee does, in fact, make my life sparkle (thank you to my friend and her daughter for sharing that awesome quote with the world).

Originally, I was going to create my own book covers and bind everything myself. Earlier this week, I decided I didn't want to punch holes into any of the pieces. While they are a series, I may want to pull one or not keep them as a book-based series. I decided to buy a scrapbook album and use that instead. I think it makes more sense in the bigger picture of the series and I'm happy with what I did to make it my own. It still has the vibe of a quote book as I originally planned.

Here's the entire series prior to being put in the album:

I used Posca markers to draw on the album. I drew on my quote books when I was younger too. It's a little chaotic, but what isn't these days?

Here's a flip through the entire series.

Thanks for following along as the Iconic series came to life! I enjoyed working with DMC Diamant thread and trying our different techniques to bring each quote to life. I think my hot glue dinosaur was a favorite random technique. Bonus of that one: I used the cutout shape for a second piece (Iconic #15). I got to paint, use crayons and markers, and needle felt. This has been a fun series to work on and I'm looking forward to volume two. I have some quotes already lined up, but if you have any suggestions, send them my way.

Coming on Monday: The final recap post of July and I give a preview of August's stitch journal.
