I know I say this every month, but this was really my favorite month so far! I love it when an abstract piece comes together in an unexpected way and takes on a life of its own. That's July's stitch journal. As I shared earlier in the month, I was pretty certain this piece was going to be about the sea, but I wasn't really sure how that would work out. Letting the stitches take over made it work and sticking with two main stitches and some guest star stitches worked perfectly. Feather and coral stitches both have a quality about them that are very reminiscent of plant life, so it worked. Adding blanket stitch made it even weirder. And the little tete de boeuf fish made me giggle. Trying the drizzle stitch (a new stitch for me) and other more dimensional stitches like cast-on and bullion knots was a lot fun and added some texture and variety to the scene.
Here's the final July recap:

Coming in August
The August stitch journal is going to be very different from the previous seven months. It's another more personal piece (I mean, they're all personal, but this one is way more personal) and it deals with something I've always been sensitive about. It does involve a scar, so if that's something that bothers you, you may want to skip August. I promise this isn't going to be gross or anything, but I know scars and stuff like this can be triggering for people, so I'm warning you now.

I was listening to the Barbie soundtrack when I sketched the pattern for August. |
I'm also going to be working on finishing the WORM pattern from Wolfratsen, starting a series based on quotes from the Barbie movie, and working on some embroidered Polaroids.
