July: Week 2 - It's definitely the sea

I added fish.

If there was any question about whether this month's stitch journal is about the sea, I think adding little fish answers that question. When I learned the tete de boeuf stitch in 2021, I thought a single stitch looked like a little fish. Adding them to the top portion of the dress adds some life into this tangled bunch of sea plants. Or something.

Tomorrow, I move to the bottom of the dress. I plan to use the same stitches, feather and coral, and add a few additional ones to look like other types of sea plants and creatures. I'm also planning on using some heavier Perle thread to create different textures for the stitches.

Here's this week's recap:

Upside down - this was the easiest way to embroider on this part of the dress because of the opening in the back.

Other Projects: Iconic #19 and Killer Robot

I finished Iconic #19 last Sunday. It was inspired by a program I went to at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA - where I'm a docent) about women in comics. Ariell Johnson, the first black woman to open a comic shop on the East Coast, said this particular quote about cosplay culture, but I think it can apply to clothing and how people think about women's clothing in general. It made me think of a few posts from my old blog about fashion and perceptions of how women dress. It also ties directly to this year's stitch journal given my focus on clothing and what it means to me.

I've started Iconic #20 but haven't gotten very far. I hope to work on it tomorrow and possibly finish this volume of the series. #20 was the quote that inspired the project. Once I finish, I'll share a more detailed post on the whole series.

I started working on this month's PopLush club pattern, Killer Robot. I can't decide what color to paint the hoop. Pink makes the most sense, but I'm also considering a silver or a combo of the two. What do you think?

I also learned a new stitch this week, the drizzle stitch. I'm planning on using it in the second half of this month's stitch journal. Along with the cast-on stitch and the bullion knot, I think it'll make for some interesting plant life in the bottom of the sea.
