April: Bernie the Bee

Greetings from Ocracoke! We're waiting to see if we'll be able to get off the island today. High winds have kept ferry service suspended since yesterday afternoon. I'm trying to stay positive, but have to admit my anxiety is getting harder to ignore. To distract myself, I figured I'd try to post the first blog for April.

This month's clothing item is one of the first items I got from Stitch Fix when I first subscribed. It's a great sweatshirt, but it doesn't fit anymore and it's faded. My original idea was to focus on knots and leaf stitches (stem, fishbone, etc.). Then, I decided to add some of the insects I created in 2021, starting with Bernie the Bee.

I decided to try turkey work stitch for this version of Bernie and it was a bit of a mess. I eventually trimmed the thread enough to make it work. I added leaves, knots, some worms (sure), and a baby bee to finish out this week.

I also finished this month's PopLush pattern. Swamp Thing is fantastic.

I included some glow-in-the-dark thread but I'm not sure it worked. I'll share an updated photo once I get home and it's in its painted hoop.

Excuse any typos and the lack of stitch details. I'm posting from my phone. Will update when I get home.
