March: 31 Words (Words 1-4)

Welcome to March! This month's article of clothing is my Nasty Woman shirt. I love this shirt, but it has seen better days (which tells you how much I enjoyed wearing it). There are some holes in the shirt and it's pretty faded. Anyway, when I was thinking about what to add to the shirt for this month's journal, I got the idea to add 31 words that describe me or have been used by someone else to describe me. Some of them are fun and empowering; others are a little less pleasant. I'll share why I selected each word during my weekly recap post. Unlike last month, all the words will be embroidered on the front of the t-shirt. My favorite colors are pink and orange, so I've selected 15 different pink and orange threads to use this month.

A secondary aspect of this month is working on lettering. I did a lot of words/quotes/lettering in 2021, but didn't do much last year. I want to work on my lettering skills using back, stem, split, chain, and whipped back stitches (and French knots when needed).

Here are words 1-4:

March 1: I'm nothing if not organized. I color code and come up with systems for keeping track of all the things. I've written several posts on this blog about organization. Do I own my own label maker? Yes, yes I do. I reorganized my studio a few weekends ago and it was a wonderful day.

March 2: We all make a lot choices every day and honestly, I wish more people opted for kindness.

March 3: My senior year of college, I worked as a costume and box office assistant for a production at Southern Rep in New Orleans. The box office manager/producer was a lovely gentleman named Roy. We were catching up one evening before a show and I told him about a failed date I went on the week prior. Roy told me he thought I was "intimidating" to guys my age. His comment took me by surprise and he quickly told me he meant it as a compliment. He told me not to ever change that about myself because if a guy is intimidated by a smart, interesting, and creative woman, he doesn't deserve her. I think about this interaction a lot. I've never considered myself intimidating, but I got what Roy meant. (No, he was not hitting on me.) Anyway, dudes get your shit together and get over it.

March 4: I recently took a 360 assessment at work and one of the people who provided feedback mentioned my "abundant creativity" as being rare in the corporate world. It's my second favorite comment from a work assessment. My favorite was someone who mentioned my baking in my annual performance review at my last company. I struggle sometimes with being truly creative at work because I find it challenging to be creative and corporate. It's something I'm working on this year. I have zero problems being creative in all other aspects of my life. I can't say anything nice about the pandemic, but I can say I wouldn't have fully embraced my creative practice had it not happened, so there's that.

Other Projects

I started another creature from PopLush - Nessie! I can't help myself with these patterns.

I ordered some new fabric from MatryoshkaDollShop this week for my next series, Iconic. I hope to get started on it later in the month. I used this same fabric for last year's stitch journal and it was so wonderful to embroider. Check out her shop if you're looking for fabric, kits, or supplies.

Since you read all the way to the end, I'll share a sneak peek of the next set of words:
