Only four months left in 2022! I've said it many times on this blog, but I'll say it again: time is a construct. How is it already September? I'm not complaining; fall is my favorite time of the year and the best two holidays, Halloween and Thanksgiving, are right around the corner, but it still feels wild that it's September. Time really means nothing.
I did a lot in August. While I wasn't able to take my road trip, I enjoyed spending the time off focusing on art and creative projects. I was able to start Spider Tree finally and did a few art journal pages. It felt good to paint and draw and not have to do work stuff. Keely seemed to enjoy sleeping in and extra cuddles, so I think I'm going to plan a mini art retreat every year. It's good for the soul.
PSA: don't forget to make an appointment to get your flu shot and COVID booster shot (if applicable). I'm getting both next Saturday.
Here's this week's recap:
August 28: There's a very long piece of yarn left over from last year's project. I did this long line of couching stitch and there's still a long piece of yarn left to use. |
August 29: It's always a weird day for me, so a tiny fleur de lis seemed appropriate. |
August 30: I see an unintentional Darth Vader or Paddington in this section of back stitches. |
August 31: The gap between the two couching stitches has been annoying me, so I closed it with some stem stitch. |
September 1: This is my favorite thread color from Sublime Stitching, #504 Amazonite. I used it a lot last year, but only had a few small pieces of usable thread in the ort jar. |
September 2: French knot Friday is a thing right? |
September 3: straight stitch inspired by the start of fall colors at the market today. I included some pictures of the flowers I bought below. |

WIPs and Other Projects
I learned a new stitch this week, the heart stitch. A fellow embroiderer I follow on Instagram shared the stitch. It's a quick and cute way to make hearts. Cutesy Crafts has
a short video on the stitch as well. It's a loose stitch and very easy to do. I need to work on rounding the hearts more, but I'm pleased with my initial attempt at the stitch.
I made some progress on Spider Tree. My goal is to have the piece done by Monday. I'm working on a blog post about it as well; stay tuned.
Next weekend: I try out my Cricut Joy for the first time. I have no idea what I'm doing, but it should be fun to experiment! I bought a pack of sticker paper (I don't know if it's paper), cardstock, vinyl, and iron-on material. Good times.
