Week Twenty-Three: We're halfway through

I'm not the type of person who celebrates their birthday for the entire month, however, I view my birth month as an opportunity to do things for myself I might otherwise skip or neglect. I decided to pick 30 things that would bring me joy to do throughout the month. Some of them cost, like buying new bras and a new set of pajamas, but most are just things to do and enjoy. This week, I watched two docuseries about cults (my favorite true crime sub-genre), listened to the records I bought on RSD but hadn't listened to yet, and I made a new recipe.

Today is my actual birthday and I'll be celebrating by going to a Nats game later today. That is one of the things I'm doing, but it's not the only thing. Every year on my birthday, I make a few donations to various organizations or people doing great work to make the world a better place. I've been donating to The Trevor Project on my birthday for at least the last five years; my birthday falls during Pride and I always want to show my support as an ally in any way I can. I also donated to Everytown for Gun Safety, specifically through the DC area sports teams community page. Lastly, I donated to the campaign of a friend from high school, Mary Beth Canty, who is running for her a seat as a state representative. I love local and state politics and I'm so proud of my friend for taking this step to help her community. It's everything I like about being an artist.

June is also the halfway point of the year, so we're getting close to being halfway through this year's project! I'm really enjoying doing a stitch journal. It's so fun and creative and weird.

This week's recap:

June 5: Green back stitch to join sections of this side of the piece.

June 6: I love variegated thread! And the stem stitch!

June 7: I wanted to do more cast-on shapes, but it did not work out as planned. I added some back stitches as well. Sometimes embroidery is messy, like humans.

June 8: a glorious line of blue back stitches. I love those shapes!

June 9: three shades of pink detached chain stitches. They look like flower petals floating in the wind.

June 10: a combination of straight stitch and French knots.

June 11: Eleven twinkle stitches in yellow and orange. Happy Birthday to me!

Tomorrow is fabric moving day. It may be time to move down the fabric rather than left or right. This week is also the week where I stitch to seven songs. I haven't finalized the song list yet, and it could change based on my mood, but I do know I want to include "Jubilee Street" by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, "Dancing Barefoot" by Patti Smith, and a Lou Reed song (I'm thinking "Perfect Day," but I'm not 100% sure on that one yet).
