I've completed the first month of my stitch journal! It's been a fun month of figuring out how this all works and what I want to focus on for this year's project. This is so different from what I did last year, so it's taken me a little while to get used to stitching for a shorter period of time and without a specific design in mind. I felt a lot of pressure, mostly from myself, to create something magical each day. It was exhausting, but in a good way (for the most part). I don't feel like with this project. It's lighter in some ways, but equally challenging and interesting.
This last week was about lines and dots. I didn't plan for lines and dots, but that's what happened.
January 23 - chain stitch |
January 24 - Russian chain stitch and my first new stitch of 2022! |
January 25 - double laced back stitch. I also decided to use this section for an entry coming this week. I'm very excited about it. |
January 26 - French knots. I called this "On Wednesdays We Wear Pink." |
January 27 - twinkle stitch |
January 28 - split back stitch |
January 29 - back stitch (also part of something for this week) |
January 30 - couching stitch |
January 31 - French knots |
I think January came together rather nicely. There's a lot to look at and some really lovely spots where I was able to layer stitches from day to day. I'm looking forward to continuing that into February. I'm planning on filling the top and bottom sections as much as I can in February and then deciding which direction to go for March.
January's entries took me about 5 hours to stitch. The longest I spent was 40 minutes (the Joe Biden quote on January 6) and the shortest time was 4 minutes, 15 second on January (an ode to my new pair of Fluevog shoes). I've had pretty good luck using the ort jar threads from 2021; I hope this holds up over the course of the rest of the year. I have a lot of thread to go through. The Russian chain stitch was fun to learn (only 92 more versions of the chain stitch to go) and my bullion knots turned out nicely. My favorite section is the entire left side from where the pink French knots start to the left. The layering of stitches in the section is exactly why I wanted to do this type of project this year.
I track time and stitches. |
Goals for February: learn two new stitches (probably the colonial and caston knots), keep the time to less than 10 minutes each day, continue to layer stitches to fill the top and bottom of the fabric currently in the hoop
This week's WIP post will probably focus on the set up for my from the back series. It'll be up on Wednesday or Thursday.
