Zlock Behind a Clock

This is my first of two Dr. Seuss themed posts this month. The Grinch will be making an appearance on December 12. Today's piece is in honor of a very special birthday boy who is turning two this week.

I introduced my friend Soozi back in July with the piece "Blue Jay." I met Soozi in 2004 when I worked in college admissions. We've remained friends, and she's been one of my biggest cheerleaders during this project. I didn't have all of December planned, so I asked people for suggestions. Soozi asked if I would create something for her grandson, Donnie. He turns two this week. I've never met Donnie, but he's adorable (his Baby Yoda costume for Halloween was a personal favorite) and I love Dr. Seuss as much as he does, so it seemed like fate bringing us together for a birthday celebration.

One of his favorite books is There's a Wocket in My Pocket. His favorite character is the Zlock Behind the Clock. He even looks behind Soozi's watch for a Zlock - how cute is that!

Happy Birthday, Donnie! I hope you have a great birthday!

I kept this as close to the original drawing as I could, but thought that Turkey work hair was much more entertaining than satin stitch. Hands and feet are hard, y'all, even for a whimsical character like. I hope Dr. Seuss won't be mad at the liberties I took with my sketch.

Details:
Stitches: Turkey work, back, straight and satin stitches, French knots
Thread palette: SS 503 (3), DMC 310 (2), 603 (2,3), 455 (2,4), 435 (3)
Inspiration: There's a Wocket in My Pocket by Dr. Seuss
