Last Stitch: Feather Stitch

I didn't have a specific number of new stitches planned for this year. Learning new stitches and practicing stitches I don't use very often is a central goal of this project. I've learned 24 new stitches (25 as of today) and used 34 stitches (I missed one in my previous post) throughout the project. I feel like 25 is a good number for new things, so today's practice piece will be the last new stitch I learn this year.

I selected the feather stitch for the last spot. It's a relatively easy stitch to do, and I like that it can be used on its own or with other stitches to make flowers or other decorative additions. I used French knots and detached chain stitches for today's flowers. It's a variation on the fly stitch, so if you can do a fly stitch, you can do a feather stitch. Drawing guidelines is helpful for this stitch; you'll need four since you skip a line to create the v shape. Maybe with practice I'll be able to embroider the feather stitch without guidelines.
