Join me in wishing my dear friend Kelly a very happy birthday! I hope you're relaxing and recovering from your holiday trip and enjoying a little more time off for yourself.
Kelly and I have been friends since 1997. We met freshmen year of college and were roommates junior and senior year. Most of my favorite memories from my twenties involve Kelly and our other friends from college. Many of my more recent favorite memories involve her as well; riding in a Mardi Gras parade, visiting Ocracoke, and Skype catch ups. She's the person who got me into art journaling, which was a big part of me deciding to try this project. She's an amazing artist, a great mom, and my dearest friend. I wish we lived closer to one another so we could hang out more.
Today's piece is inspired by Kelly's beautiful night sky paintings. You can see some examples on her Instagram account. The way she captures the colors of the night sky is beautiful; they're always my favorite pieces of hers. I used fabric pastels for the sky; I think the color is better than what I would have achieved with fabric paint (which doesn't really blend very well). The piece also features glow in the dark thread and a little rhinestone moon because everything is better with a little sparkle.
Happy Birthday, Kelly!
