I'm really tired today. Working an election is exhausting on multiple levels, so I'm glad I took the day off. I would have been useless at work today. I'm disappointed in the results of the election, but I'm too tired to make anything reflective of my disappointment. Maybe later this week or next.
As I will be spending most of my day on my couch, I thought it would be fun to return to the couching stitch. I like this stitch a lot, but haven't used it much since I learned how to do it back in May. Today, I'm using DMC variegated thread and some yarn I had planned to use in August, but didn't. I bought "super fine" yarn since it reminded me of DMC Perle or other wool threads. I figured it would more like embroidery thread. For a couching stitch, it does work like thread. It works best at the base thread (the one you couch). Since it's not meant to pass through fabric, the yarn starts to strip when used as the anchor stitch. It still works, but I had to replace the strand of yarn to finish both of the zig zag patterns. The couching stitch always reminds me of how railroad tracks are shown on maps. There's no great meeting behind any of this piece; I liked the loopy line and added the zig zags for fun, but it does look like weird railroad tracks.
If you need me for the rest of the day, I'll be couching (watching Top Model reruns and napping on my couch).
Details:
Stitches: couching and back stitches
Thread palette: DMC 4120 (6 strands), 310 (3 strands)
Other materials: Loops & Threads superfine "woolike" yarn #10 (purple) - I'm allergic to wool, so I bought an acrylic blend yarn so my hands wouldn't get all hive-y.
