Sweater weather

Several years ago, I bought a this excellent cardigan sweater from Target. It was gray and orange stripes, so sort of fall-ish. I love cardigans and stripes, so it was perfect. It wasn't until a few days later, when I was wearing the sweater for the first time, that I realized something about it: it looked a lot like the sweater Freddy Krueger wears in the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Freddy's sweater is brown and orange (I think), but once I saw the similarity, I couldn't unsee it. I refer to this sweater as my "unintentional Freddy Krueger sweater," and I love it. It's one of my favorite cardigans (I'm wearing it currently). The sweater also provided inspiration for an amazing group costume idea (that I've never actually done); the distant relatives of Halloween movie villains. My sweater would be the perfect costume for Freddy's niece, Frannie, who loves cats, knitting, and making weird jokes about dreams.

Anyway, today's piece is inspired by my love of sweaters. I'm more of a cardigan girl, but I also enjoy a regular sweater. I have a pretty decent sweater collection, and I like to add at least a few new ones each season. So far this year, I've purchased a mauve cardigan and beige striped sweater. I need to get at least one new black sweater, and maybe one more whimsically patterned sweater to really feel good about sweater season.

I've never embroidered a sweater, so I really didn't know what I was doing with today's piece. I decided that I would do a regular sweater rather than a cardigan, mostly since I can sort of draw a regular sweater. Chain stitch seemed to be a good ideas for the stripes; it sort of mimics a cable knit pattern. I used back stitching for the outline. Originally, I was going to fill in the rest of the sweater with satin stitches, but I decided I liked it without the filling stitches. If I do another sweater (and I probably will in December), I can try filling in the sweater completely.

Hope you're enjoying some sweater weather wherever you live. It's 80 degrees here today, but I'm still wearing my unintentional Freddy Krueger sweater. I'm willing it to get cooler.

This is my favorite t-shirt.

Some photos of the unintentional Freddy Krueger sweater for reference.

Details:
Stitches: chain and back stitches
Thread palette: SS 114 (3 strands) - this color is called Corset. I had to adjust the brightness a lot when I took the photo so you can see the color better. It looks brown if I leave it alone.
