My cat is a jerk. Sort of. Sometimes. Frequently. My vet jokingly told me a few visits ago that there's a note in Keely's file that says something like, "he'll let you know when he's done." I laughed about it and tuckedd the comment away as an amusing thing to tell people about my cat son, but I never saw proof this note was a real thing.
Until today.
I ended up taking him to urgent care hours at the vet for what is probably an eye infection. He gets them sometimes, and he's been acting the way he normally acts right before he gets one, so I took him in to be on the safe side/I'm a worrier when it comes to his health. Anyway, the vet tech came out to take Keely back to a waiting area until the doctor was available for an exam. The tech said to me, "There are few flags on his record. He has time limits." On Keely's record there are two neon labels: TIME LIMITS and USE CAUTION. Basically, he only wants you to be near him or touch him until he doesn't want you to do those things anymore. My cat son is kind of a jerk.
What a thing to find out on National Cat Day. As I write this, Keely is sitting near the entrance to the kitchen, staring longingly into the room waiting for his dinner (he has 35 minutes to go). He's annoyed with me. He threw up on his cat bed and doesn't want to use his old one while the new one is drying. He's mad there's a bird in the tree outside our house. The sun isn't out today, and he hates gloomy days. I haven't given him all the treats. TIME LIMITS! USE CAUTION!
So much judgement. So little patience with his human. |
Despite these things, I love the little jerk. I don't know what I'd do without him. I know that I would not have made it through the last almost two years if he wasn't here. He keeps me entertained, almost always wants cuddles at 4 pm, and is definitely keeping an eye on the ghost we have (probably, maybe we have a ghost). He's the best even when he's being the worst.
He enjoys my unintentional Freddy Krueger sweater. |
Cats and Halloween are a package deal. Whether it's a cat as a witch's familiar or a cat terrorizing a family for generation or a cat that keeps a mummy at bay, they always seem to pop up in random horror movies and more family-friendly Halloween fare. Today's piece is inspired by my favorite of Keekly's hobbies: ghost patrol. He occasionally stares at a random spot on the wall or ceiling for long periods of time. Obviously, we have a ghost. Maybe one day I'll write a children's book about Keely and his ghost. That would be cool.
Don't forget to celebrate all the cats in your life today! Keely wants to remind everyone there are plenty of hours left in the day to send him treats.
I think he's taking my Halloween movie watching a little too seriously. |
