Ghosts

I don't remember the first ghost story I ever read, but I'm pretty certain it was part of Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. If you don't remember these books, they were children's books based primarily based on folklore and urban legends. As much as the stories scared me, I couldn't get enough. Eventually, I graduated to other ghost stories, taking ghost tours, and living in obviously haunted places. Ghost stories are fascinating. Like so many other things that fall in the horror/supernatural category, they're largely based on history or a combination of history and folklore. One of my friends was (may still be) a guide for a haunted history tour company in New Orleans. All the guides were required to go through training very similar to what I had to do as a museum docent, and were licensed as historical guides. They used history to make the stories of ghosts and vampires and voodoo come to life. If you go on ghost tours or listen to podcasts like Lore, the history matters. This is why I love ghost stories so much; they appeal to my history nerd side and are creepy and eerie.

I'll have to retake this picture at some point; this skein of glow in the dark thread isn't as strong.

Sometimes Keely likes to stare at a specific spot on the ceiling for long periods of time. I assume it's because we have a ghost. He never seems bothered by the ghost, so I think we're cool.
