When I originally planned vampire day, the piece was going to be about Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I've been a huge Buffy fan forever; I even love the movie (not Kristy Swanson so much anymore, but the movie is hilarious). I was trying to figure out what do make for a Buffy piece, but wasn't coming up with anything. I realized it was because it was about a vampire slayer not vampires. I can't make a piece about vampires and have it be about a vampire slayer. That doesn't make any sense.
I was also catching up on season three of one of my favorite shows, What We Do in the Shadows. If you haven't seen the show or the movie it's based on, do yourself a favor and watch them this weekend. The movie, created by Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, and follows a group of vampires living in New Zealand who are being filmed by a documentary crew. It's funny and weird and a little gross, and one of the most charming vampire movies I've ever watched. The series is part of the same universe, but doesn't feature the same characters and it takes place in the greatest place for vampires to live (probably), Staten Island. The show is hilarious and each season keeps getting better. I love addition of a female vampire, Nadia, and an energy vampire, Colin Robinson. There are tons of nods to the original movie and other vampire movies, including a fun vampire council. I watched the season three finale last night, and I can't wait for season four. It's going to be so good.
One of the vampires, Laszlo, has a fun habit of turning into a bat to get out situations he doesn't want to be in, but is usually the one who created the situation. He shouts "BAT!" and then turns into a bat. Yes, I created a bat earlier this month, but I liked the bat and he needed to make another appearance. I did a padded satin stitch today, so the wings have some dimension.
Meet Laszlo the Bat.
