I dissent, MFs/Scream #10

Presented with an application to enjoin a flagrantly unconstitutional law engineered to prohibit [individuals] from exercising their constitutional rights and evade judicial scrutiny, a majority of Justices have opted to bury their heads in the sand.
-Justice Sonia Sotomayor

I dissent.
-Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Who knew I'd get to Scream #10 before the end of the year (you can view more the Screams here)? There's been a lot to scream about these days, but today, I'm screaming about Texas. If you haven't been paying attention or maybe have been dealing with (waves arms wildly) all of the rest of this, you may have missed that Texas passed a horribly restrictive and dangerous abortion law last week, and the Supreme Court did nothing to stop it. From a state that can't handle mask mandates and vaccines, comes a terrible law and a bounty system that rewards people for turning in suspected abortion providers or those seeking abortions.

Screaming inside my heart isn't working so well anymore.

I'm not going to argue with anyone about abortion today, but I really need people to think about what's really going on here. This isn't about protecting babies; it's about controlling women and their autonomy. If we really cared about babies and children and women's health, we'd do something about gun control, school funding, fixing foster care, making adoption easier, and about a million other things. But we don't. We care about moral superiority and reminding women that our bodies are not our choice.

Today's piece is inspired by Justice Sonia Sotomayor's dissenting opinion on the Texas law, and a quote attributed to the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

If this piece offends you, well, move along. You don't deserve my art.
