Welcome to August! Can you believe it's already August and that I've made it to the eighth month of this challenge? One of the original goals of this project was to incorporate unusual or other decorative materials into my embroidery. I've done it a few time, using cassette tape ribbon, sequins, fabric, and ribbon, but I feel like I need to do more. While I'm not considering this a theme, my goal for August is to use other materials in addition to thread through the month. In some cases, it may be in place of thread, but not always. Here are some of the things I plan to use:
- buttons
- sequins
- rhinestones
- cassette tape ribbon
- tulle
- ribbon
- shoelaces or something similar
- yarn
- cotton balls
- specialty thread (metallic, glow in the dark)
- pom-poms
- paint
I love suggestions, so send your ideas my way if you think of anything I can try. If I don't get to it this month, I'll try in the future.
Today's post is focused on the best embellishment: googly eyes! Who doesn't love googly eyes? Psychopaths, at least according to Amy Poehler. Her quote is from a recent episode of the NBC show Making It. It's such a sweet show, focused on makers and artists competing to win patches for various crafts and art projects (and a cash prize for the winner). Like Great British Bake Off, everyone is super nice to each other and they help each other out. Amy and Nick Offerman are the best hosts. If you miss Parks and Rec like I do, this fills the void a little bit.
